Walton Commissioners Set Millage and Budget
Walton County, FL, 10/01/26 – The Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) met for their final budget hearing of the year and set the new 2027 budget and millage rate for the county, including the millage rate for the North Walton Mosquito Control District.
The BCC initially recommended the rolled-back rate instead of the same millage rate used in the prior year. The rolled-back rate is a calculated millage rate adjusted for increases in the overall assessed property values due to valuation adjustments and new construction. Then in the tentative budget hearing, Commissioners voted to further reduce the millage by an aggregate 5.28%, or $8.6 million below the rolled-back rate. This means that Walton County residents will see a drop in their annual property taxes.
The Board adopted Fiscal Year Final Millage Rates based upon the total assessment of $49,098,663,848. A millage rate of 3.25 will be required to meet the minimum requirements of the various budgets submitted by county officials. A millage rate of 0.441 will be required to meet the minimum requirements of the North Walton Mosquito Control District.
Altogether, the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 County Commission Budget was set at $345,223,508, of which $1,429,937 is for the North Walton Mosquito Control District budget. The aggregate operating millage rate is 3.2806 mills, which is 5.28% lower than the rolled-back rate.
The cuts reflect the possibility that Florida’s proposed property tax referendum, Amendment 3, may pass in November. The Commissioners discussed different ways to prepare for that possibility. Following Board discussion and public comments, the Commission voted to adopt the millage rate and budget.
